Submissions Guidelines

We publish clear, memorable books with strong voice and thoughtful design. If you believe your work belongs at Book Press House, follow the guidance below and send us a short proposal with a writing sample. We review queries from anywhere in the world.

What we’re looking for

Non-fiction & narrative

Ideas that help readers see, think, or act differently: narrative nonfiction, memoir with a clear arc, practical handbooks with a strong editorial structure, essays, and cultural commentary.

Design-led projects

Books that benefit from careful typography, information design, and image systems—where the way content is presented improves understanding and delight in hand.

Original work

We consider only unpublished, original material for which you hold the rights. Translations are welcome if you control English-language rights.

Currently not a fit: poetry-only collections, academic monographs, or projects driven primarily by images without a clear editorial argument.

Your submission package

1) Query letter (1 page)

  • Working title and estimated word count
  • Who the reader is and the core promise
  • Author bio: 3–5 lines, relevant credentials
  • Comparable titles (3–5) and what’s different

2) Synopsis (1–2 pages)

  • Overview of the argument/story arc
  • List of chapters or sections
  • Key takeaways readers will gain

3) Sample writing

  • One complete chapter (2 is even better)
  • 5,000–10,000 words total is ideal
  • If visual, include 5–10 representative pages

4) Practical details

  • Project status and realistic timeline
  • Territory/rights availability
  • Contact details and preferred pronouns

Formatting & file types

Documents

.docx or PDF. Double-spaced, 11–12 pt readable fonts, page numbers. Use standard punctuation, em dashes, and smart quotes.

Images

Place low-res images in the sample (for review). Keep originals available at 300 dpi minimum; supply on request via link.

Naming

Lastname_Title_Query.pdf, Lastname_Title_Sample.docx. Attach files or use a single cloud link with view access.

How to submit

  1. Email your package to info@bookpresshouse.com.
  2. Subject line: “Submission — Title — Your Name”.
  3. We’ll confirm receipt. Typical response time is 4–6 weeks. If time-sensitive, say so in your email.

Simultaneous submissions are fine—please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere.

Our review process

1. Editorial screen

We assess fit, clarity of premise, and strength of voice. If it’s not right for our list, we’ll let you know promptly.

2. Deeper read

Selected projects are read in full by the team. We may request additional chapters or a sample redesign for visual titles.

3. Discussion

We’ll arrange a call to align on goals, scope, schedule, and expectations for editorial collaboration and production choices.

4. Offer

If we proceed, we’ll share a publishing offer outlining key terms, royalties, delivery dates, and marketing approach.

Submission FAQs

Do you accept proposals from first-time authors?

Yes. Strong ideas and strong writing matter more than past publishing credits. Include links to any relevant articles, talks, or projects.

Can I submit a proposal without complete chapters?

Yes—send a detailed synopsis and at least one polished chapter so we can assess voice and structure.

Do you consider illustrated or image-heavy work?

We do when the editorial argument is clear. Provide a PDF with sample spreads and brief captions noting intended image sources/rights.

Which language should I submit in?

English. If the work is a translation, confirm you control English-language rights.

Will you provide feedback if you pass?

We’re a small team and can’t offer detailed notes on every submission, but we do respond to all complete queries.
